Zone 1: Ornamental Perennials

Eupatorium 'Chocolate' Stachys byzantina

Euphorbia sp. Euphorbia sp.

Chrysanthemum x superbum 'Becky'

As an intern, I had the opportunity to get to know and work with a variety of plants I hadn't worked with before. One of those is the Verbena bonariensis (Brazilian Verbena) plant shown above. This plant grows tall, with very noticeable pink flowers floating in mid-air on thin stems. It does, however, reseed incredibly well in bare soil. I spent a good deal of my weeding time in the main gardens removing seedlings of this plant.

What I like about perennials like most of these is that they form fairly compact clumps and stay put. They have their own shape and form, and aren't wild and sprawling all over the place. They can be terrific for small gardens.
